No. 10: Bar Harbor, Maine
Quaint Bar Harbor has everything an adventurer needs for an unforgettable visit any time of the year. Acadia National Park is your backyard, so there's always an outdoor option. The beautiful park offers hiking and biking in the warmer months, skiing and cross-country skiing in the colder months. There are many activities you can do on the water, including kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding and sailing.

Northfield keeps things going in the summer with scuba diving, canoeing, hiking, and biking, and in the winter offers plenty of outdoor fun with backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, ice skating, and ice hockey. Take a city break and enjoy one of the music venues or art galleries.

Located in the mountains of western North Carolina at an elevation of 3,333 feet, this college town has the highest elevation of any city over 10,000 east of the Mississippi River. As a result, Boni is the heart of outdoor adventure activities. There are many hiking and climbing areas in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Mount Mitchell is nearby, the highest peak east of the Mississippi, and Grandfather Mountain and Billings Rock are popular day trips. The rivers are also good for fishing, or you can go rafting on France's wide river.

Jackson Hole is a popular base for exploring the wonders of Yellowstone National Park on your own or on a guided tour. Nearby Teton Village offers world-class skiing and hiking in the winter, mountain biking and rock climbing in the summer. Whitewater rafting, horseback riding, and game drives are available on the Snake River for day or multi-day trips.

Located near Mount Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak, Stowe Mountain Resort offers breathtaking panoramic views, plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities, and small-town charm all in one package.
